In these times of transformation and imbalance bridge-builders and inspiring intellectuals who are able to walk some miles in somebody else’s boots are urgently sought-after. It is therefore our pleasure that Professor HONG Yongmiao has accepted his nomination as Member of the CDA Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Hong is a prototype of a bridge-builder for peaceful co-existence – not only between the cultures of China and the West but also between the world of academia and business. A distinguished professor of an US ivy-league university – Cornell University in Ithaca, New York - and a Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences alike he also translated his theoretical knowledge into practice of global financial industry as a top-manager with the world’s largest bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Since then he serves as an Independent Non-executive Director with China Everbright Bank. Hong Yongmiao is also co-founder of a distinguished 9 years Sino-European research program combining leading German and Chinese research institutions funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
He is currently the Dean and a Distinguished Professor of the School of Economics and Management, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) as well as a Distinguished Research Fellow at Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science and Center for Forcasting Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. Until 2020 Professor Hong served for some ten years as the Ernest S. Liu Professor of Economics and International Studies, Department of Economics, Cornell University in the United States. Besides his scientific career Mr. Hong has a global footprint in the financial industry serving until 2019 for seven years as an Independent Non-executive Director with the world’s largest bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). In 2013 he founded together with German colleagues at Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin the International Research Training Group (IRTG) 1792 “High Dimensional Nonstationary Time Series”. With its participating faculty, the IRTG comprises all major academic institutions of mathematical statistics and economics in Berlin and Xiamen: Xiamen University, Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), Free University of Berlin, Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) with the Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin as the hosting university. The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG) provides the funding for this research and the PhD students in the framework of this Training Group. Professor Hong is also a founding member of the international Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE) in New York, USA. He is a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries, a Fellow of The Econometric Society, a Fellow of International Association of Applied Econometrics (IAAE), and a Senior Fellow of Rimini Center for Economic Analysis (RCEA).
